High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Woodstock Public School, HPGE is part of everyday practice. Many students have high potential, and we help that potential to grow.
- Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students.
- Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
- Groups are flexible, students take lead roles, and feedback is strengths-based with clear goals and self-assessment.
- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners
Every student is individual, so opportunities are flexible and diverse.
- Students deepen strengths through competitions, critical thinking, and STEM and coding pathways incorporated into our day to day learning.
- Talent is celebrated through school musicals and showcases such as our annual Small Schools Performing Arts evenings, preparing for and participation our local village agricutural show, visiting artists and workshops.
- Leadership grows through a variety of leadership opportunities and roles throughout the year, including leading of school assemblies and other events. Students attend a variety of conferences where they are challenged to grow in their capabilities. Wellbeing is made visible with PBL awards, our on-site wellbeing officer and school counsellor.
- Sport matters too, with PSSA sport, training and coaching that include differentiated PE.
Every student has access to a range of supports and programs.
- Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we help with entries, preparation and reflection so every experience feeds back into learning.

Small Schools Performing Arts
Every year our students have the opportunity to perform on stage in front of both their own parents and those from the other small schools who form a part of our local small schools network.
Students access teachers with skills and knowledge across the range of creative arts.

Sporting Opportunities
Students at Woodstock Public School are supported to participate in NSW Primary School Sport Association (PSSA) events.
Students have multiple opportunities at school to be coached in a range of different sporting fields. Some of the coaching available includes tennis, track and field, soccer, cricket, golf, football, swimming and more.
Students recently participated at Western for the opportunity to go on to state level in track events.

Leadership
Our student leaders have many opportunities to grow their skills. Recently they attended the Cowra Youth Peace Forum.
This was a highlight for students.
They listened to and met the inspirational guest speaker, Ruby Rieththmuller, founder of Womn-Kind and her passion for improving access for young people living in rural areas to mental health support.
With the support of UN Youth NSW ambassadors and members of Cowra council, students discussed various UN goals and the concept of peace. Then our school leaders presented their thoughts on inequality and discrimination.
